PANDEMIC PETS

WINNERS OF WEEK 7

Hello Pawrents,

Welcome to Pandemic Pets Week 7!! We still have lots of dog entries coming into us so thank you for that, but our Covid Cats are slow to arrive, as we only had one cat entry this week. A big thank you to all that have entered and please remember  that if your pet has entered and has not been featured yet, it does not mean that you will not be featured, unfortunately I only have so many prizes each week. So don't give up. I can't believe we are eight weeks next week!  So get your stories and photos ready for next week and send them in. We also have a little update on Niffler, our Tic Tok superstar from our Tic Tok week. Nifflers owner has sent us a Niffler update Rachel said " I thought you might like an update on the Pandemic Puppy Niffler who is now 21 weeks now and losing his baby teeth and getting adult teeth ! He's starting to lose that puppy look and looks like a gangly teenager, he will be starting at puppy school on Thursday. BUT his biggest update is that he has perfected 15 tricks and has earned his Novice Trick Dog title. I'm so proud of him" Well thank you Rachel for the update on his progress, he certainly is the best boy. Stephen said to tell Niffler to call into The Pet Parlour and there will be a nice bag of training treats for him, just give him a call before you are going.

NOW on to this week's prizes that we have for you, prizes for Best Pandemic Pooch and 3 Pandemic Pooch Runners Up, Best Covid Cat and a lovely little note from a frontline worker and her two dogs Odhran and Hedi Klum and finally we have a Best Creative Entry. We also have Stephen from The Pet Parlour with his two hampers that he sponsors each week !  So if you have won a prize this week Stephen from the Pet Parlour will be in contact by Tuesday the 7th of July about sending you the vouchers or about collecting your spot prizes. Then Miriam, our wonderful vet is giving us great tips about our pets this week on our older pets and how to care for them, so please click on the link and have a look at her advice this week.

Thank you again for all YOUR entries and also I think we should give another big round of applawse to Dublin City Council for having us featured again and also to Sandymount Pet Hospital for their support and great advice AND not forgetting The Pet Parlour for all their sponsorship. BUT this week  I would also like to say a personal thank you to Justine who is the lady that translates all my animal talk and photos into the lovely visual media that is finally produced each Monday evening. Thank you Justine.

Now on to the winners of Week 7

Edel Swords

So the winners of week 7 who are collecting their prizes from Stephen in The Pet Parlour are:

BEST PANDEMIC POOCH
Colette Mulready with Judy:  The Pet Parlour €50 Voucher

Colette shared "We got our dog Judy 7 years ago from WSPCA. She is a constant gentle companion who is a true best friend. During the pandemic she never left my side whether I'm doing artwork or gardening. She was very patient having her Covid  haircut. Her favourite hobbies include walkies, going for drives, cat watching and having lots of snoozes. She brings love, calmness and joy into the world and we feel so lucky to have her."

BEST PANDEMIC POOCH RUNNER UPS

1. Lauren Barnes and Cookie:  The Pet Parlour €20 Voucher
Lauren shared "I have been working from home since the 18th of March and therefore have the best pawassistant in the world. My pandemic pet is Cookie - she is 8 and a half and is a Jack Russell terrier cross. She loves attention, going on walks in the park and the beach, she loves sitting like a meerkat and watching the world go by and cuddling up in her bed. She is the happiest little dog and everyone who meets her wants to rob her.  She is a princess and runs our household. This is cookie demanding my attention while I am working ‘why aren’t you giving me rubs human?’  and this is cookie in our famous meerkat position."

2. Aaron Burdis with Enzo:  The Pet Parlour €20 Voucher
Aaron shared "We got Enzo on the 10th of March at 12 weeks of age. My partner and Enzo have been inseparable since that day. He has certainly kept us busy. I was in work throughout the lockdown and they have created an amazing bond together at home. Although my partner Debbie has lost a lot of her business for this year it has been a huge struggle at times but Enzo always brings a smile to her face.
Although sometimes he runs off with her shoes or jumps up on the sofa and leaves a trail of puppy slobber she still loves him

3. The Duggan Family with Towzer:  The Pet Parlour €20 Voucher
The Duggan family shared "Our dog Towzer is a hugely loved dog. A few members of our family have special needs in our house and this little character has brought us all so much happiness. He'll do anything for treats. He was given treats to stop chewing things while being trained and to give them to us intact, but now he sees it as a type of currency and still has to have a treat every time he gives something to us. Last week he kept bringing us tissues, and in return received a treat each time, until we discovered he had a whole box that he was carefully taking one at a time out of, a bit like an ATM. He's so clever and has us all in stitches regularly and his nickname is Doggo."

BEST COVID CAT

Sean Cooke with Freddie: The Pet Parlour €50 Voucher

Sean shared "This is Freddie, my four year old cat. My sister found him one night coming home from work. She adopted him and convinced my mum to keep him. She promised to take care of and look after him. My Mum like animals but she's more of a dog person (we also have two dogs; a German Shepherd and a Springer.) My sister left home two months later, after all her promises, to travel and Freddie and I became best friends. He is a great cat and so affectionate.Freddie is the boss of the house and loves nothing more than to sleep on fresh bedclothes. Also an interesting Freddie fact is that he doesn't like fish and loves dog treats.

BEST CREATIVE ENTRY
Joan Hughes with Bruno and Chase: The Pet Parlour €25 Voucher.

Joan shared "It has to be Bruno & Chase who both bring nothing but happiness into our lives long before the pandemic and for years to come."

We've done time trials, dawn runs, hill climbs (must remember to start on an up so i can finish on a descent!) Motivation is very hard when doing it on your own, and that's where these guys have really helped.  Recently we have begun training for a marathon, which i am attempting next week (my first one ever!)"
